A video showing a clash between an anti-abortion protester and a pro-choice volunteer who escort people seeking abortions is going viral. Several similar videos have gone viral on TikTok in recent months, but the latest is unique in that it caused the “sky daddy” meme to trend on social media.
The brief TikTok, uploaded by user @loveurmother, shows an escort giving anti-choice protester Jennifer a piece of her mind. "But that's loving her, by calling her a coward? Really," the escort says as the video begins. The woman attempts to claim that she was calling someone else a coward, but the escort is having none of it.
"You can shut the fuck up," the escort cuts in. "Because they're making the best decision that they can in their situation and you're trying to make them feel bad about it. So go off, Jennifer. Is that the validation you want from sky daddy? Calling people a coward?"
The video ends with an amused snort from the person filming. The woman's use of the phrase "sky daddy" shot the video to viral status and pushed the hashtag #skydaddy to trend on Twitter.
It's not the first time God has been referred to as "sky daddy"; Jeffrey Goldberg, editor-in-chief of the Atlantic, used the phrase in a 2010 blog post. But for many people on Twitter, the recent TikTok was their introduction to the term. And they loved it.
Internet veterans who were well aware of "sky daddy" delighted in watching their fellow denizens of the web discover one of God's kinkier nicknames.
"Sky daddy" shared its upward trend in the U.S. with another term, which left some users baffled. Anakin Skywalker—a completely different sky daddy—began trending, causing some people to believe the two trends were one and the same.
As "sky daddy" continued to trend, a few people took the opportunity to throw some shade at religion as a whole. "Idk abt u but the Sky Daddy fandom is so toxic," one person quipped.
