In the main event of the season premiere of WWE Friday Night SmackDown, Roman Reigns put his Universal Championship on the line against Braun Strowman. Mark Henry, Goldberg and Keith Lee were shown watching the match on the ThunderDome screens. Jey Uso was shown in the back watching on one of the TV screens.
Reigns retained his title by locking in a guillotine submission and forcing Strowman to tap out. Cole noted that this may have been the first time that Reigns won a match via submission.
After the match, Jey Uso walked out and looked on as Reigns hit Strowman with a spear. Reigns could be heard telling Uso that he doesn’t want to hurt his cousin and he’s giving him another chance because “this is how we eat.” Reigns then hit Strowman with several chair shots to the back. As Uso went into the ring, Reings said, “I love you, I would never hurt you” and he told him that he just needs to prove himself and it makes no sense for Uso to try to get on Reigns’ level. Reigns then asked Uso to pick up the chair and use it on Strowman.
Uso picked up the chair and then dropped it and then he used it on Reigns as referees and officials tried to pull him off. That gave Reigns enough time to knock out Uso with the Superman punch.
