Orleans Masters: India’s badminton star Saina Nehwal entered into the semifinal after an emphatic hard-fought victory over Malaysia’s Iris Wang in women’s singles of Orleans Masters BWF Super 100 event on Friday. The ace shuttler defeated her Malaysian counter-part 21-19, 17-21, 21-19 in a match lasting for exactly one hour.
The 2012 London Olympic Bronze-medallist will now face the winner of the match between India’s Ira Sharma and Denmark’s Linda Christophersen..
This tournament holds great importance for Saina as it counts as a qualifier event for Tokyo Olympics. Due to her lack of success in the last couple of years, the 31-year old needs all the points she can to make it to her fourth Olympic Games.
Nehwal is currently placed 22nd in women’s singles world rankings. In order to qualify she needs to be within the top 16.
