Miami restaurant ‘would’ve said no’ to unannounced Kamala Harris visit

A Doral restaurant owner who received an unannounced visit from Democratic vice presidential candidate Kamala Harris said he would have preferred she hadn’t stopped by.

NBC 6 reporter Steve Litz said that although the area outside the restaurant was “buzzing” from Harris’s impromptu visit, Andres Garcia, the Amaize Latin Flavors board of directors president, said he would not have invited the campaign to visit.

“We don’t use the company for political reasons,” said Garcia. “We are very respectful of every individual in our organization. I will never take as an organization a political decision.”

Garcia said users on Facebook threatened to boycott the business, but he didn’t want the restaurant to be used for political gain.

“In respect to our stakeholders, we wouldn’t support that. If they asked, we would say, ‘No, we’re not going to do it,'” Garcia said.

“Sen. Harris and Doug greatly appreciated the chance to stop by and pick up delicious arepas and talk to local Doralzuela residents,” a representative for the Biden for President Florida campaign told NBC Miami on Tuesday.
