Maher slams Democratic politicians defying their own mask guidelines: ‘They can all jump in a lake’

Comedian Bill Maher slammed Democratic politicians who have been caught ignoring their own coronavirus guidelines, telling them to “jump in a lake.”

“They can all jump in a lake,” Maher said on HBO’s Real Time on Friday night. “Because Democrats, who are always preaching wearing the masks, they keep getting caught doing what we’re not allowed to do. Nancy Pelosi did. Lori Lightfoot did. Now, Gavin Newsom. Did you see this? He was at some sort of birthday party indoors. I haven’t eaten indoors, publicly, since March, without a mask. And at the table, there were lobbyists from the California Medical Association. That’s like getting shitfaced with Mothers Against Drunk Driving.”

Several liberal politicians across the country have been criticized over the past few months for not adhering to strict coronavirus restrictions that their states have imposed, including California Gov. Gavin Newsom, who was forced to apologize this week after he was photographed at a large indoor gathering without a mask.

California Republicans expressed frustration with Newsom, including San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer, who slammed the governor on Twitter.

“His kids can learn in person,” Faulconer tweeted. “But yours can’t. He can celebrate birthday parties. But you can’t. He can dine on a $350 meal at one California’s fanciest restaurants during the worst recession in generations. But you definitely can’t. Can you believe this? I can’t.”

“I should have modeled better behavior,” Newsom said later.
