Ind vs Eng 2nd ODI: Virat Kohli likely to break Graeme Smith and Ricky Ponting’s record, equal Sachin Tendulkar’s milestone- India skipper Virat Kohli is set to break multiple records when he walks out to bat in the 2nd ODI today. Kohli needs just 41 runs to break the record of Graeme Smith in the list of most run-scorer by a captain in ODIs. Currently, Kohli has amassed 5,376 runs in 93 ODIS as captain.
If Kohli goes past this record, he will be placed fifth on the elite list. Smith had scored 5416 runs in 150ODIs as captain
Australia skipper Ricky Ponting is placed No,1 in the list with 8497 runs in 234 matches, MS Dhoni is placed second with 6641 runs in 200 ODIs. Stephen Fleming and Arjun Ranatunga are placed 3rd and 4th on the list.
One century away to break Ricky Ponting’s record, equal Sachin Tendulkar
If Kohli is able to smash a hundred in the ODI opener, he will equal Sachin Tendulkar for most centuries in India. Master Blaster had scored 20 tons at home. Besides this, Kohli would also surpass Ponting with the most number of centuries in international cricket across all forms of cricket.
As of now, Kohli and Ponting have 41 centuries each in international matches. A century in the opening fixture will help Kohli overtake Ponting with the most number of tons in ODIs. The duo scored 21 centuries as skipper in the ODIs.
The 32-year-old had smashed his last ODI hundred on March 8, 2019, against Australia at JSCA Stadium, Ranchi.
