One of Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden‘s strategies this election season has been to infuse joy and humor into the campaign. To wit, yesterday the former vice president posted a lighthearted video in honor of National Dessert Day.
In the video, Biden holds a Dairy Queen Blizzard in one hand and an ice cream cone in the other. Like countless others have done since the advent of the iconic treat, Biden, whose love for ice cream is well known, turns the Blizzard upside-down to demonstrate that not even gravity affects how thick the treat is. Nary a drop spills.
The campy clip is clearly not to be taken seriously. Yet it’s somehow managing to blow conservatives’ minds.
Prominent pro-Trump Twitter conservative Ian Miles Cheong demonstrated his confusion by tweeting the video with a series of question marks, prompting people to drag him.
Like Cheong, many conservatives didn’t seem to understand the reference.
Conspiracy theorists surmised that the move, which Dairy Queen has used in advertisements since the dawn of the Blizzard, was a secret signal or something.
Elsewhere, people familiar with the legendary Blizzard were sad for those who’ve never known the delight of flavors like Snickerdoodle Cookie Dough, Choco-dipped Strawberry, or Oreo Mocha Fudge.
“Doing this to a blizzard is totally a thing…. i feel sorry for people not acquainted with this treat!” one user wrote.
Many were amused by conservatives’ attempt to turn Biden’s milkshake move into some kind of #BlizzardGate scandal.
“I do not know if I can vote for a man for our nation’s highest office when he is so obviously beholden to the whims of a foreign ruler, the Dairy Queen,” tweeted Grace Thomas.
For its part, Dairy Queen has thus far chosen to sit back and enjoy the free publicity.
