At least five jawans killed in encounter with Maoists in Chhattisgarh

NEW DELHI: At least five security personnel lost their lives and several others were injured on Saturday during an encounter with Maoists in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur, reported PTI quoting officials.
The police said that some Maoists were also killed in the encounter which is still under way..
The gunbattle broke out in Tarrem area when a joint team of security forces was out on an anti-Naxal operation, Chhattisgarh Director General of Police DM Awasthi told PTI.
The personnel belonging to the CRPF’s elite unit CoBRA (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action), the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and the Special Task Force (STF) were involved in the operation, he said.
The encounter comes just days after 5 CRPF jawans were killed and several injured in an IED blast triggered by Maoists in Narayanpur.
